Joelle Jean-Louis
Anxiety, Depression, Trauma – Support for Adults & Young People (12+)
As a registered psychotherapist and counsellor, I provide compassionate, client-centred care through flexible in-person or telehealth sessions tailored to your needs. My approach balances immediate support for challenges like stress, anxiety, transitions, or emotional distress with deeper exploration of behavioural or emotional patterns that can inhibit growth. Together, we’ll adjust the focus and duration of our work, medium or long-term, to align with your goals, working towards meaningful and sustainable change.
Counselling
If you’re seeking shorter-term support, we’ll focus on practical strategies to manage day-to-day challenges like stress, anxiety, life transitions, or overwhelming emotions. This goal-oriented approach helps you build coping skills, regain balance, and feel more equipped to navigate what’s happening now.
Psychotherapy
For deeper work, we’ll explore recurring emotional patterns, early life experiences, or how you relate to others. This reflective process aims to uncover the roots of your struggles, build self-awareness, and create long-lasting shifts in how you think, feel, and respond to life.
(Many clients start with counselling to address immediate concerns, then transition into psychotherapy as they feel ready to explore underlying patterns, but we’ll always move at your pace, guided by what feels most supportive.)
What I Work With
I’ve supported adults and young people across diverse settings, from secondary schools and community programs to private clinics, and have experience working with NDIS participants, including those with complex or dual diagnosis. Common areas I address include:
- ADHD
- Adjusting to parenthood and parenting
- Anxiety
- Childhood trauma
- Depression
- Grief and loss
- Identity exploration
- Post-traumatic stress
- Relationship concerns (individual-focused)
- Self-esteem challenges
- Sexual violence
- Work–life balance issues
My Approach
I create a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore what feels unresolved, those parts of yourself that feel stuck, unseen, or misunderstood, whether in relationships, emotions, or life’s challenges. Working relationally, means I focus on what emerges between us in sessions, like shifts in mood or communication, these often mirror patterns in your broader life. By leaning into these moments instead of avoiding them, you’ll uncover insights into how you cope and connect with others.
Emotions like shame, grief, or anger often hold clues to unmet needs. Together, we’ll explore them with curiosity, helping you respond with self-compassion and align your choices with what really matters to you.
I blend evidence-based methods like Psychodynamic Therapy (uncovering unconscious patterns), Gestalt (enhancing self-awareness), Emotionally Focused Therapy (navigating emotional triggers), and Mindfulness (staying grounded). These are tailored to your needs, again ensuring therapy feels supportive and effective.
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, it’s about finding what helps you feel heard, empowered, and capable of change.
If you’re curious about how my approach to therapy could work for you, or just want to ask questions, I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation. We’ll discuss your needs and see if we’re a good fit, with no pressure or obligation.
